Letter from the President

Late this year, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) will roll out as 5G mobile networks are continuing to expand across the US. The combination of the two will result in fewer drops in connection, enhanced network capacity, better performance, improved power efficiency and overall better Wi-Fi performance.

Wi-Fi 6 is the next generation of wireless local area network technology (WLAN), which will replace Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). This change brings with it speeds up to 30% faster, decreased latency, increases in simultaneous deliverable data and enhanced power efficiency. Wi-Fi 6 will be the first iteration to include Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) and Multi-User Multi-Input/Multi-Output (MU-MIMO). OFDMA moves the transmission coordination to the access point. Access points then are able to reduce latency and increase network efficiency, especially in high-demand environments. MU-MIMO allows more devices to be on one network simultaneously.

Wi-Fi 6 reportedly will be up to four times faster than 5G, so Wi-Fi will still be the preferred method of Internet connectivity when it is available. In this issue of Monthly Insights, you can learn all about Wi-Fi 6 versus 5G and how Wi-Fi 6 Will Revolutionize the Way You Work. Additionally, check out our Tech Talk from March where we talked with Aruba’s Channel Systems Engineer Bob Kloentrup about 802.11ax and its impact on the industry.

AIFAlgorithms for the greener good

AI is already a huge force in business – but all those hardware advances, big data, and powerful algorithms are pointless if we don’t have clean air to breathe and clean water to drink.

Fortunately Silicon Valley has noticed, and tech giants such as Microsoft, Google and Intel are investing in projects that use deep learning, neural networks, and synthetic data to create AI-based solutions to fight climate change and preserve our planet. Here’s how AI is solving some of the world’s biggest environmental challenges.
