This year we will celebrate 20 years in business. I’d like to thank each and every one of you for making that possible. It’s hard to imagine that it’s been that long but at the same time incredible to see all that has happened since then. What started as a commitment to the Erie community to bring advanced networking consulting has blossomed – because of our clients’ needs – into an organization that provides an array of technology services and solutions not only in Erie but also in the Buffalo and Cleveland areas and across the U.S. As we look forward to another year, we are continuing to add new talent and expand our services to help you do what you do best.

But, with the celebration of our successes and tenure, comes change. Last month Networking Technologies co-founder, Ned Reade, retired. Ned will leave a hole in the heart of the company and clients, but he has worked diligently to position us well into the future.

With these markers in our history, it is even that much more important for us to take pause and consider our business’s trajectory as we enter 2018. However, it shouldn’t just be in milestone years or when major change occurs that you consider these questions. They are important in refining your business and setting yourself up well for the future. So, as you lead your business into 2018, it’s time to honestly ask:

  1. What were your greatest wins this year? Who were the people and what were the processes that made that happen? How can you “bottle” the success recipe moving forward?
  2. What (or who) are you saying goodbye to this year, and how will this impact your trajectory? What plans are in place or need to be in place so you can avoid hiccups with the loss?
  3. What are you adding this year and how will this impact your growth? Are the right resources and people in place to make these changes happen well? Do you need to explore additional resources?
  4. What opportunities did you miss last year and how can you avoid them in the future? What signs did you miss and what indicators can you build into your processes so the opportunities don’t get missed again?
  5. What opportunities are available to you this year and how will you go about taking advantage of them?
  6. What did you focus your energy and attention on last year? What was a good use of your time and what was probably a waste of time? For those waste-of-time activities that are still necessary, to whom or to what outside source can you delegate the activities to so you can focus your attention on what brings you the most benefit.

The honest answers to these questions can result in the start of a strategy for 2018 or topics of discussion with your team.

We’re here to help you address the answers to these and many other important business questions. We have found that some businesses answer Question 3 with “we don’t have the resources and/or people” to do what we want to. Because of our wide range of offerings – our managed services, cloud services, and network and server support to name just a few – we were able to design and implement solutions that helped them meet their goals. We also understand that the answer to Question 6 is pivotal for your business’s success. If you are spending time on the wrong things, your business will not be able to grow. We also know that as you look around your company, you may not have the talent pool to delegate to or may not be able or willing to bring another employee on to handle the task. That’s where we come in. We can provide support to your business without the headaches of hiring. You get the technology experience you need and deserve without the overhead of another staff member.
