14 Tips to Protect Your Business from Ransomware Attacks

used with permission from SBA.gov, by Natale Goriel

Ransomware attacks are the fastest growing malware threats. On average, more than 4,000 ransomware attacks have occurred daily since January 1, 2016. Ransomware, a type of malicious software that infects and restricts access to a computer until a ransom is paid, affects businesses of all sizes. The good news is that there are best practices you can adopt to protect your business.

  1. Implement an awareness and training program. Because end users are targets, employees should be aware of the threat of ransomware and how it is delivered.

Letter from the President

Last month we traveled to Hewlett Packard Enterprise Discover 2017. These conferences are a wealth of information but they also have a benefit for you, our customer. These conferences allow us to engage with our partners to learn about dawning solutions. The relationships that we have with HP assist us in furthering our partnerships and enhancing our channels of communication so we can effectively provide solutions to our customers quicker. The contacts we have at HP not only know our name, but also who we are. That level of relationship is a huge advantage to you. Our clients who joined us at the conference were overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge gained. One of our customers who was asked to join a very small, invitation-only Women and Leadership breakout session, was surprised to see the one-and-only Meg Whitman as her speaker. There’s nothing like hearing from the best in the business!

I would love to share with you all that we learned. Unfortunately, space doesn’t allow that. So, here are just four of the highlights:

Hybrid IT. This was truly the talk of the conference. This focus is finding the right mix of traditional IT with public and private cloud for your apps and data. As Meg Whitman shared: “It will be a hybrid world fueled by apps and data from the core of your data center to the edge to multiple clouds.”

Edge Revolution. Because of hybrid IT, the industry is seeing an innovation revolution happening at the edge. The data center is becoming less and less relevant but the need to deal with Internet of Things, mobile technology and the ability to provide access is exponentially increasing. They noted that the best way to think about the edge is to think about it as a place – it’s everywhere everything is.

Big Data. The surge in data production and collection is bringing about a new era of big data. Learning to leverage this data for business decisions and organizational management was highlighted with solutions like Microsoft BI and IBM Watson.

Gen10. HPE unveiled the new Gen10 server, which is the first major upgrade to its ProLiant server line since 2014. Usually server upgrades aren’t very glamorous (or worth really discussing), but this one’s security features make it noteworthy. HPE leveraged a custom HPE silicon that acts like a “fingerprint”. The server will not boot unless the firmware matches the “print”. We also see HPE taking advantage of recently acquired Niara, a behavioral security analytics company. The server now has continuous learning ability to detect malware. Aside from security, Gen10 also provides Scalable Persistent Memory with terabyte capacity and “intelligent system tuning” that allows the server to match workloads.

We are not only looking forward to utilizing the cutting-edge knowledge we learned, but are also proud to say that we are well prepared and positioned to take you into the future. Our utilization of Office365, our data management solutions, our partnership with Microsoft BI, and our ability to provide both cloud and infrastructure allows
maximum flexibility to develop solutions that meet your current and future needs.

Update Night Light

Exposure to blue light from digital devices, such as your phone and your computer screen, can have harmful effects. You
may want to lower the blue light coming from your computer.

The effects of blue light

This is not to say that blue light is inherently bad all the time. In fact, you are naturally exposed to blue light by the sun.

Don’t overlook your monitor

For some, the term “tech innovation” brings to mind new PC form factors and unique printing methods. But high-tech innovation
doesn’t stop at hardware—it also includes displays.

In recent years, display innovation has produced heightened resolution, connectivity, functionality, and ROI. Displays are sleek, stylish, more robust, and thoughtfully
aligned with today’s dynamic, agile, and collaborative workspaces.
