Letter from the President |
Imagine a world where everything computes. Where all your devices can
connect to the Internet, can ‘talk’ to each other and share data. By
2020, this Internet of Things world will be a reality.
The Internet of Things, or IoT, refers to the devices that function across
potentially global networks. The IoT can be compared to the Internet.
The latter is made up of people, the former is made of things – sensors
and devices that gather and share data. IoT enables you to collect and
analyze data from connected assets, people, and places to deliver
actionable insights in an industrial environment.
In just a few years, IoT will be mainstream. In fact, by 2020:
- 28 billion IoT devices will be in operation
- 43% of all IoT data will be processed at the edge prior to being sent to a data center
- 38% of potential IoT economic impact requires interoperability between IoT systems
- 85% of organizations will adopt IoT by 2019
Because of its pervasiveness, IoT will impact every area of your technology infrastructure from cloud to analytics to wireless to security.
How ready is your business for this paradigm shift? Are you an IoT All-Star, Pro, Rookie or Amateur? Find out with the IoT 2020 Readiness Indicator, or read this IoT Readiness White Paper from the IDC.
There are some incredible solutions that will help accelerate your responsiveness to new insights and monetize data from connected devices:
Let us know if we can help get you up to speed on how IoT can impact your business or help you with
strategy! Also check out this month’s content – Internet of Things in Smart Cities and IoT Data Improves Brand Loyalty and Success.

IoT Data Improves Brand Loyalty and Success |
by Tim Peters |
Big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) are changing the way
businesses interact with their customers. IoT, a network of
connected physical objects embedded with sensors, is
allowing today’s businesses to collect, analyze, and act on
large quantities of data in order to streamline operations
and better serve customers. In fact, harness IoT data is
expected to have a retail environment economic impact between $0.4-$1.2 trillion per year by 2025. A
survey of 1,700 retail decision makers found that seventy percent are ready to adopt IoT to improve the
customer experience, and seventy-three percent view big data management as business-critical. Key areas of improvement will include automated checkout, in-store promotions happening in real time, layout optimization, smart CRM, inventory optimization, and employee productivity.Read more → |
